Abstract
Asians are more prone to develop hypertrophic scar and keloids, when compared to Caucasian population. Keloids are predominantly located at skin surface where tension is high, such as front chest and shoulder.
Previous research indicated that tension reduction and reduction of vascularity could be effective on reducing keloid scar formation. This presentation will focus on how conservative management could reduce vascularity, as well as reduction of skin tension around the keloid scars.
A combination of optimized pressure therapy with silicone gel could further enhance the pliability of keloid scar, thus minimizing the peripheral tension and circulation. An innovative scar care pad was developed to provide dual effect on management of keloid. New pressure garment design focusing on localized pressure on keloid scar would also be introduced in this presentation.
